Reconciliatory Space

I was asked to write a letter in support for Amy O’Neal’s Opposing Forces and the accompanying documentary.  Amy asked me to consider how the work has impacted me personally as an artist and why I believe this work is important for the larger community.  I am glad she invited me to write this letter in support of an application to a grant funding source.  Taking the time to write this letter helped me put into words what I truly believe is most powerful about great contemporary dance in the lineage of modern dance.  I hope reading this letter leads you to recognize the opposing forces in your life/body and that it inspires you to move toward a reconciliatory third space.  “Dance, dance, otherwise we are lost.” Pina Bausch
